What is nextDash?

nextDash is a self-hosted dashboard you open in your browser. It keeps your links, shows how your services and machines are doing, and puts both on one screen.

• No accounts. One installation, one set of data on disk.
• No cloud. Your data lives as plain JSON files in a directory you control.
• Keyboard first. Search, switch pages, add, edit and run commands without the mouse.

It began as a place for bookmarks, and bookmarks are still the core: grouped by page (Work, Home) and category (Dev, News), with search, a command palette, an inbox for links you have not filed yet and a Bookmarks view. Around them sit more tools:

• Monitoring. Link health checks, uptime, certificate and domain expiry, page drift, a status page and alerts.
• Containers. A Containers view for the machine's own Docker containers, linked to the bookmarks of their web UIs.
• Widgets. Weather, calendar, feeds, your machine, media and home services, and any service that answers with JSON.
• A look of your own. Themes, backdrops and a theme studio.

What nextDash is not

• Not a multi-user service. Anyone who can reach the address can read and change the data — see Security and self-hosting.
• Not a feed reader. Watch feeds and the RSS widget tell you what is new; they keep only the newest entries of the feeds you follow.
