nextDash documentation
How nextDash works, from the first launch to running it next to your own services. This is the manual of nextDash v1.26.1.
Getting started
1✨What is nextDash?nextDash is a self-hosted dashboard you open in your browser.2⚙️Installation and first launchDocker Compose, Unraid or a build from source, and what you see the first time.3🧠Core conceptsEverything is a page, a category on a page, or a bookmark in a category.🏠Self-hosted guideMost people who self-host keep three things apart: a dashboard with links to their services, something that tells them when a service is down, and something to look at their Docker containers. nextDash does all three on one screen, and — more useful than that — it knows they are about the same services.
Using nextDash
4🖥️The dashboardThe dashboard grid is your start page: a header with clock, weather and page switcher, then categories and widgets in columns.5➕Adding bookmarksAdd a bookmark with one line (&), the full form (+) or by pasting a URL.6🔖Opening and editing bookmarksClick a bookmark or press its shortcut letters to open it; the right-click menu and editing in place change it.7⌨️KeyboardEvery action on a bookmark is Shift plus a letter, and the cheat sheet (! or F1) lists them all.8🔎Search, commands and findersOne panel with three modes: type to search your bookmarks, : for commands, ? for finders that search another site.9🗂️Pages, categories and collectionsOrganise with pages, categories and collections: sort, fold and spread categories over columns, move bookmarks, and let smart, custom and tag collections gather links for you.10🏷️TagsTags are free labels, stored in lower case.11📚The Bookmarks viewThe Bookmarks view is the library of every bookmark on every page: a rail of filters, a list and a side panel.12💓Checks & healthSet a bookmark to Off, Periodic or Monitor and nextDash checks it for you.13📥InboxThe inbox holds links you saved but have not filed.14📰Watch feedsA bookmark with news gets a stripe and a badge, the preview card leads with the headline, and Shift + N opens one paper for everything you follow.
Homelab
15🐳ContainersThe Containers view shows the Docker containers on this machine, with logs, updates and disk use.16🧩WidgetsWidgets are blocks beside your categories that show something other than links: health, feeds, system figures, a to-do list.16A📈GlancesThe Glances page shows a machine as a Glances 4 server sees it — processor, memory, disks, processes, containers — and keeps a record of its own, with graphs, incidents and a forecast for filling disks. nextDash only reads.

17🎨AppearanceAppearance changes how the dashboard looks: themes, background, surfaces, type, layout, rows, link previews, header and action bar.18⚙️ConfigConfig is a view inside the dashboard, with a section for each part of nextDash.19📊StatisticsStatistics counts what you have and what you use, worked out from the data on your server.
Operate
20📦Data, backups and importBack up everything or restore a backup, import and export bookmarks, feed in links from other services, set up webhooks, and keep or empty the trash.21📜LogsLogs shows what the server has been doing, without shell access, and keeps an activity trail, a machine-readable record of the events you choose.22🔌Browser extension and captureThe extension saves the current tab to a page or the inbox.23📱Phones, tablets and the installed appnextDash adapts to touch screens, with its own layout, gestures and long-press editing.24🔐Security and self-hostingnextDash has no user accounts: put it behind a private network or an authenticating proxy.25🛠️TroubleshootingFind the symptom, read the cause and the fix.
